Best BBQ Restaurant in Memphis

In the Fall of 2011, during a lively discussion at our weekly poker game, the owners of One & Only BBQ had a similar vision. A vision of a great little barbecue restaurant. A place that treated people special. They wondered if they could compete in Memphis, a city so proud of its barbecue, some even say that it is the barbecue capital of the world. Five years later, One & Only BBQ made it to the final five in the Commercial Appeal’s “Memphis Most”, for the best ribs and the best barbecue sandwich in Memphis. Over the years, the Memphis community has made One & Only BBQ a big hit!

Pulled Pork Shoulder Sandwich

Ingredients

1/3 lb. pulled from fresh, bone-in, whole pork shoulders.
Brisket Sandwich

Ingredients

1/3 lb. Memphis style, marinated, smoked, sliced thin, grilled, seasoned, lightly chopped.
1/2 lb. Cheeseburger

Ingredients

lettuce, tomato, dill pickle, jalapeno, red onion, mustard, mayo, ketchup, or barbeque sauce, covered in onion straws.

I dragged my husband to Memphis for a weekend, just to get away. We wanted to stay close to our hotel, so we relied on Yelp to find us some good eats for a good price, not too far away. We decided on One and Only BBQ. BEST. DECISION. EVER! The food is heavenly! We both had ribs (wet, because neither of us likes dry, sorry Memphis!). He had the loaded baked potato salad and slaw, and I had green beans and baked beans. Oh. Goodness! The meat was juicy and tender, the twice baked potato salad was creamy and rich, and everything was just perfect. On top of that, we received fantastic service, and had a lovely chat with the proprietor. We strongly considered going back for dinner the next evening, it was that good! We'll be sure to stop back next time we're in the area.

My favorite part of a new city is trying out all the hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Memphis has plenty. Luckily for me, one of the best is literally seconds from my front door. The quiet store front barely contains the flavor that is oozing out of the place. I have been here several times, and each time I am floored by how delicious it is. I've had the ribs, dry and wet, the brisket, the pulled pork, and the chicken. My go-to sides are the twice baked potato salad, and the bbq baked beans. The dry ribs, in my opinion are so much better than the wet ribs, especially if you add the spicy sauce. I go all in when i eat BBQ, so invariably I leave with sauce all over my face, shirt, and in the crevices of my fingernails when i eat here, but it is worth it. This place is miles above Corky's, so please stop what you're doing and go eat here.

What a pleasant surprise. I happened upon this place by chance and ended up leaving with a huge smile on my face. Great value (no portion skimping here) and the food is outstanding. I had the smoked quarter chicken...amazing. The seasoning was perfect. If I weren't a cheap bastard, I would have eaten a second plate just for the taste (not because they didn't give me enough). I will be back to try some of the other items - the menu is full of variety.

Stopped by here after randomly choosing it from my GPS after entering the letters "BBQ" on our way into Memphis. What a lucky break! The service was fast and super friendly, the place was packed (always a good sign for a hole-in-the-wall place) and it was pretty clean, bathroom included. All of this was overshadowed by the sheer awesomeness of the food. Crap, it was good. I had the BBQ Nachos (exactly what it sounds like) made with pulled pork, one friend had a sandwich, and the other had a half slab with beans and loaded potato salad. Tasted everything and was not disappointed by any of it. Yum. I will def come back next time I'm in Memphis. GO! NOW!

We are still sitting at our table recuperating. We got the ribs with 3 meats and 3 sides.. Pulled pork, chicken wings and brisket, mac and cheese, slaw and fries with Texas toast and a bun. My husband and I agreed its probably the best ribs and brisket we've ever eaten. Everything was amazing, even the service.. Wish I could give an extra star.

Great BBQ Is Hard Work!

We smoke our meats daily at each of our locations with 100% hickory wood! This includes our fresh, never frozen, whole bone-in pork shoulders, which are seasoned and smoked for 15 hours. Our moist, tender, fresh chicken and turkey are marinated, smoked, and lightly seasoned. Our pork baby back ribs are marinated for 24 hours before they are hickory smoked and then finished on our grill. We serve top quality rope Polish Kielbasa sausage. Our twice-baked potato salad was voted #22 in the Memphis Yelp community’s list of “top 100 dishes in Memphis you must eat before you die”.
